Parties and Candy Corn

Our anniversary was very nice, thanks for all of the lovely emails! Next years maybe we’ll have a real party and send invitations out and everything. Or maybe not, because I’ve never thrown a party in my life, and just the thought of trying to put something like that together scares me to pieces. Which probably explains why Mr. M and I eloped in the first place. :)

I can’t believe Halloween is tomorrow, and I haven’t had any candy corn at all this year! That’s one of my favorite things about Halloween, and I didn’t get any. Then again, if I wait until Tuesday, it wil all be marked down. Or maybe this will just be the year I stop buying candy corn.

Does that mean I’m a grown-up now?

Gift Idea – Cigars

Tomorrow is our anniversary! Mr. M and I have been married for three years (although, we’ve been together for over 11 – wow!). We don’t do big celebrations for our anniversary. I do like to do a little something, though. I was thinking of getting Mr. M some celebratory Avo cigars. He used to enjoy a nice cigar on the deck when we lived in Chicago, but he hasn’t had one for quite awhile. Since the weather is staying so warm, I thought he might like that. It would be completely unexpected, that’s for sure!

Phone Woes

We have been having problems with our land line. We thought it was a connection issue, so we had the cable repair guys come out and check it out. That was a wasted afternoon. They did a lot of figuring and test calling, and bickering (seriously, these two guys were like an old married couple). They finally came to the conclusion that it had nothing to do with the line, but it was our phone.

Really, all we needed to do was replace the battery pack with some new vtech batteries. I wish we had thought of that to begin with, and saved ourselves some trouble!

Horror Movies are No Place for Practicality

One of the things that bugs me about some horror movies is how impractical the characters are. Just a few simple steps, and their lives would be much less fraught with danger.

For instance: Car breaks down on a cold and lonely stretch of forest. Characters decide to leave car and go walking in search of gas station. Monsters from woods appear, and horror story begins. Now, as someone who likes to think ahead, this bugs me. If these characters had just signed up for a roadside assistance club before they left on their trip, their troubles would be solved. A quick call, nice repairman shows up with a portable jump and gallon of gas, and everyone is on their way.

Then again, this would mean less horror movies. But it would ease my practical mind.

Budgets and Whatnot

One of the things I want to focus on now that I’m working again is getting our debt under control. We don’t have a mortgage, which is both good and bad, I suppose, but we do have consumer debt. I’m starting to look into different ways of budgeting and planning, including online tools as well as Debt counseling. I’m still not sure what is the right path for us to reduce this debt, but I’m looking forward to the day when we can save more and send less to the credit card companies!
