September is Here

September is here, and you know what that means! We’re one step closer to the new fall shows and the new TV season! I don’t have too many shows that I’m truly excited to watch, but there are a few shows that I’d like to check out. Modern Family is one, since I missed the first season entirely, and The Big Bang Theory is another that I never really watched.

Really, though, I’d like to watch the earlier seasons of these shows before jumping right in. But I’m too impatient to wait for reruns (and these shows aren’t streaming online anywhere right now). I think what I’ll have to do is wait for Cyber Monday deals and pick up the earlier seasons on DVD. In the meantime, I think I’ll have to store this season’s shows on the DVR.

Whew! That’s a lot of TV watching to get through! Good thing I have a lot of knitting projects I want to get working on.

Roses!

Mr. M and I have been together as a couple for about 10 years now, but we only got married two years ago. Which always puts us in a quandary as far as wedding anniversary gifts go – are we celebrating our 10th anniversary, or our 2nd this year?

To keep things simple and easy to remember, we’re celebrating our wedding anniversaries by year, which means that this year will be our second, or “cotton” anniversary. I’m trying to think ahead this year (which I never, ever do!) and found a site (justpaperroses.com) that creates beautiful roses, themed for each year’s anniversary. For instance, if you’re looking for 5th wedding anniversary gifts, they offer an array of wooden roses.

These roses are wooden! How cool is that?

The best part is that if you’re a collector (like me), and you’ve missed a year or two at the beginning of your anniversaries, they offer sets with roses for each year prior than the year you’re celebrating. This year, if Mr. M and I wanted to start a new tradition of gifting these roses each year, we could also order the prior year’s paper rose, to keep the theme complete. Sweet!

Really, though, these roses are pretty enough to display even if it’s not an anniversary. You may not want to wait to get them for your home until you’re looking for 5th wedding anniversary gifts. Just a thought!

Now I just need to casually mention this post to Mr. M so he finds it in time for our October anniversary. Hint, hint!

Catching Up: Dexter Season 2

Thanks to Netflix streaming, Mr. M and I have been able to catch up on entire seasons of TV shows that we’ve missed over the years. This week, we finished the second season of Dexter.

For those that don’t know the premise, the lead character Dexter is a serial killer with a “conscience.” That is, he has a code – he only murders people who are murderers themselves, never the innocent. By day, he’s a blood splatter expert for the local police district. Let’s face it, he has a better time finding his victims with close ties to the police than he would with a sales job or as a factory worker.

The show walks a fine line in keeping Dexter likable. It’s very, very strange and disconcerting to keep rooting for the serial killer, but somehow that’s exactly what happens. When the law starts closing in, you end up hoping Dexter finds a way out, a way to escape. Then you realize you’re rooting for the bad guy and… oh, let’s just say the show is complex.

Season Two was pretty good, but wrapped up a little too cleanly (all things considered). I’ve heard that Season Three is better, so I can’t wait to get started watching that one next.

Joan Jett – Again

Remember how I was all “Oh, Joan Jett is coming to the Fair, but we won’t go. I hate crowds, blah blah blah.”

Yeah, those words were pretty tasty. Check out where we were that night:

8.19.10 - Joan

We got there early, got great seats, and had a blast. SO MUCH FUN. So glad we went.

Prepping for Reunion 2011

This is my mom and dad:

My mom and dad had six kids:

Five of those six kids had kids of their own:

Everybody!

Unfortunately, we are all scattered and living all over the country. But we’re lucky enough to get together once every 2 years for a family reunion.

We’re already in the planning stages for Reunion 2011. My personal dream is to take an Outer Banks vacation, and rent a house (or two!) on the beach, preferably with all of the amenities. Something like this house by Carolina Designs – the Seahawk. It would have plenty of room for all of us to gather in the evenings for family dinners and gab sessions. It’s near the beach for the folks that like the sand, but it also has its own private pool and hot tub for the non-beachy types. There’s a rec room to keep us busy in case it rains (it always rains on our reunions at least once, we’re used to it). Plus, there’s a grill for cookouts! Granted, there are so many of us, we might have to rent TWO houses, but that’s OK, we’ve done that before.

I’m really, really hoping we can stay somewhere like this next year. A house like this would make all of us very happy. Jumping for joy, happy, reallly:

Looking forward to Reunion 2011!
